“I grew up in the care system, and was always dependent on drugs, mainly cannabis, but dabbled in all sorts really to block out the past as I thought this was the only forward. I have tried all sorts of medication, programs, and treatments but they never worked and tended to make me worse. In 2017, I met a man called Alan who worked for a church and he told me about Eagle Community. I thought why not, I’ll give it a go, I’ve got nothing to lose. A week later I was driven 250 miles down to Eagle Community in North Devon.

When I arrived, I was just under 10 stone, very thin, paranoid and a real mess. It was about 3 -4 weeks after arriving that I asked the Lord into my life in the TV room with Carole. I got an instant rush through my body, like hot water running through my veins, and felt an instant weight lifted off my shoulder. I burst out crying which is something I had never done because previously, I felt that my heart was made of concrete, but now I have feelings.

Since being here, I have achieved more here in 10 weeks than in 10 years! I have got my driving licence, I am training to become a tree surgeon, and just enjoying life in general. Praise the Lord! Everyone has seen a real change in me, including the staff here and my family.”

Lee is really thriving here at Eagle Community and moving forward in his faith, regularly contributing to the bible studies here. He is working with a local tradesman and comes along to any churches we visit, where we talk about the work and ministry of Eagle Community.

Mike -

“My mother died when I was about 9, and I blocked out a lot of my childhood due to my father being a Jehovah’s Witness. I drank heavily through most of my twenties and thirties and I was also a gambler, which started when I was 9 years old. Due to my father being a Jehovah’s Witness, I didn’t believe in God as I do now. I thought at that time, what gives Christians the right to believe that they are the only ones who know the truth? I spent a lot of my years’ gambling and drinking, instead of getting married and having children. Because of my addiction to gambling, I was a thief, a liar and a cheat.

I came to a point in my life when I realised I had to do something about my problems, as I was almost at rock bottom. I wanted to kill myself, but the thought of my son dealing with the aftermath stopped me from doing that. I eventually came to Eagle Community which I knew was a Christian rehab, so I knew what I was getting into. Basically, I spent 2 1/2 months there as an agnostic, sitting on the fence. I believed in something but I wasn’t sure what it was.

I was in a bible study on Friday morning, which is part of the program here, and Jonathan the minister said if you ask God for forgiveness and mean it, He will accept you into His Kingdom. I did ask God to forgive me for all my sins, and I received His salvation, and His peace and joy into my heart. I was completely chilled out that weekend when I asked Jesus into my life. At Christmas I went to the Grosvenor Church carol service, and whilst there, I had tears in my eyes, and I felt tingling all over my body. At that time, I was suffering from shoulder pain, and during the service, I felt that someone touched my shoulder, but when I turned around there was no one there. I believe it was God helping to alleviate my pain, as my shoulder improved from that point forward.

I still suffer from depression which has been a long-term problem, but God is really helping me to deal with that as I trust in him and read his Word.”

Mike came to us in the Autumn of 2017, and since then has met with God and found real meaning, peace and joy in his life.
